Petrology of Sedimentary Rocks by Jr. Sam Boggs, , available at Book Depository with free delivery worldwide. In sedimentary rock. Sedimentary petrology is the study of their occurrence, composition, texture, and other overall characteristics, while sedimentology emphasizes the processes by which sediments are transported and deposited. Sedimentary petrography involves the classification and study of sedimentary rocks using the petrographic microscope. Stratigraphy covers all aspe.

For everyone interested in study sedimentary petrology. Very well written, the matters are scientifically described and the bibliography is extensive. The book was first published in but keeps being perfect for the deep study of sedimentary rocks. These sediments accumulate in a wide range of environments in the proglacial region (the area in front of a glacier), most in fluvial environments, but some in lakes and the ocean. Glaciofluvial sediments are similar to sediments deposited in normal fluvial environments, and are dominated by silt, sand, and gravel. The grains tend to be. Sediment is solid material that is moved and deposited in a new location. Sediment can consist of rocks and minerals, as well as the remains of plants and animals. It can be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a boulder. Sediment moves from one place to another through the process of n is the removal and transportation of rock or soil.

This account is concerned with the petrography and sedimentology of a series of terrestrial sediments from Aldabra, a raised atoll in the Western Indian Ocean, figure 1 (lat. 90 24' S, long. 20' E). Samples were collected from June to September of during phase 8 of the Royal Society's Aldabra Expedition.

Sediment layers can be formed from dust, volcanic ash, river sediments, underwater mudslides, plant and animal skeletons, precipitated calcium carbonate, or salts left behind by an evaporated sea. (Image courtesy Integrated Ocean Drilling Program) Bits of continental dust can be swept into the ocean by rivers as well as the wind.

Petrology of Sedimentary Rock This book emphasizes the properties of sedimentary rocks rather than sedimentary processes. Thus, it focuses on description and discussion of mineralogic and chemical composition, as well as the textures and sedimentary structures that characterize sedimentary rocks.

SECOND EDITION, by Sam Bogs,Jr. An accessible and engaging introductory text for geology majors, the book covers both sedimentary rocks and stratigraphy.

Sedimentary Geology utilizes important current research in tectonics and sedimentation and focuses on crucial geological principles. The book covers a wide range of topics, including trace fossils, mudrocks, diagentetic structures, and seismic stratigraphy.4/5(4).
